Joel Brennan has performed with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Winnipeg Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic, and Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, and has served as principal trumpeter of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra and Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra.
A Yamaha Performing Artist, Brennan performs and records with the Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras as well as numerous other ensembles. Brennan is also active in Melbourne's early music scene, performing as principal trumpeter with the Saint John's Bach Orchestra, Melbourne Baroque Orchestra, and Australian Chamber Choir. He is a member of Ensemble Three, a unique trio of trumpet, trombone, and guitar, which won the 2017 Melbourne Recital Centre Contemporary Masters Award.
Awarded a Fulbright Grant in 2007, he spent a year in the Netherlands and has been on staff at the University of Melbourne (Australia) and Brandon University (Canada). In Melbourne, he received the Conservatorium Teaching Award and was Deputy Chair of the Australian Music Examinations Board. He is the creator of Poper's Game, a unique practice app for trumpet players. Originally from Boston, Brennan received his bachelor's degree from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has master’s of music and musical arts degrees as well as a DMA from Yale School of Music.
